Buying Crystal Stemware Sets

Actually all glassware products start the same way, as molten glass that is then shaped into a piece of tableware. The big difference in types of glassware is it's content. To make crystal stemware, lead oxide is added to the molten glass, which makes the finished product much easier to cut and produces a unique clarity and color that can only be found in fine crystal.
Fine crystal stemware is usually produced by hand rather than being machine made as most everyday glassware is made. It will have a distinct clarity and can always be clearly identified by the beatiful ring tones it produces when lightly struck.
Caring for crystal stemware is an important subject since it is naturally very fragile and simply can't be treated the same as you would glassware for everyday use. For instance, you should be very careful not to subject crystal to large temperature fluctuations quickly, such as putting a hot liquid in a cold glass. It's good to warm the glass first and then add the liquid aterwards. Washing should always be done by hand in warm, soapy water too as dishwashers are out of the question when cleaning crystal. Store the cleaned stemware right side up so as not to damge the rim.
